New group in Monmouth ... Over Monnow

Latest News: The taster sessions for young people of Cub Scout Age (8 to 10 1/2 years) were not as well attended as we'd hoped - too few young people came along to start up a viable cub pack and too few adults came forward to help as future leaders.  So, we'll try again in January.

The 1st Wye Scout Group used to meet in Monmouth but closed early in 2004.

However plans are being drawn up to start a new group on the Rockfield side of Monmouth.  The new group will probably start with a Cub Pack running for ten weeks during which members of the District Team, Scout Fellowship  and leaders from other groups will run the Cubs' programme, assisted by the Gwent Area Project Officer, Mike Breakwell.  If there are enough young people and they are supported by enough adults from within the local community who are prepared to acts as leaders, helpers and committee members, the Group will continue after the first ten weeks.

The initial work by Mike Breakwell and the District Team clearly shows that there are plenty of young people, there are venues, and support from community leaders.  But, the most vital ingredient will be adults who volunteer to run the new Group.

This is not a case of "in at the deep end", though.  There is already support and training in place for leaders and being used by the other Groups in Monmouthshire.
