District Camp Site

Monmouthshire Scouts have their own camp site at the foot of the Black Mountains.  It is in a secluded rural spot in a valley bottom with:

The site occupies 26 acres; on one side a wooded slope runs down to a level stretch beside the river, a tributary to the Usk.  The river and its banks are a site of special site of interest and it is hoped that salmon will return one day.  At the upper end the access road leads onto a hard area for car parking (don't drive onto the soft area!).  Just below is a flat grassy area for camping or games and from the bottom of this a wide path leads through the riverside trees to a series of small clearings for patrol camp sites.

It is available for any Scouts for overnight stays whilst hiking, weekend camps or longer.  It can be booked by contacting the Bookings Secretary.

For large groups or for those needing full facilities the Botany Bay camp site is on the eastern edge of the District just outside Tintern and a mile or so from the River Wye.  Botany Bay can be booked by contacting the Gwent Area bookings secretary.

And, for Scout Troops wanting no more than a farmer's field, there are many sites available.  Just ask our District Secretary or ADC (Activities).
