Activities Available within the District
Monmouthshire has a huge range of activities within its borders.
As well as the two main camp sites, there are plenty of places to stay,
including some of our Group headquarters.
Activities available within the District include:
- Hill walking in the Black Mountains (Form M authorisation required)
- Water activities on the Wye and its tributaries and on the Llandegfedd
reservoir (where professional instruction is available)
- Hiking just about everywhere, including the Three Castles Walk and the
Offa's Dyke Path
- Horse riding, including pony trekking in the Black Mountains
- Cycling
Sites of interest within the District include:
- the Offa's Dyke Path
- Castles open to the public at Abergavenny, Chepstow, Raglan, White Castle,
Grosmont, Skenfrith, Caldicot (there are many more)
- Roman remains at Caerwent (and at Caerleon, just outside the District, is
one of only three legionary fortresses in Britain)
- Museums at Abergavenny, Chepstow and Monmouth (this one features Rolls of
Rolls Royce fame and Admiral Lord Nelson)
- Markets at Monmouth and Abergavenny
Sites of interest within easy reach of the District include:
- the Millennium Stadium in Cardiff
- Big Pit mining museum (free entry includes underground tour of real coal
mine)
- Brecon Beacons
- Newport Transport Bridge (one of only six left in the world)
- Rock climbing in the Wye valley (Form M authorisation required)
